Pet Shipping
When moving or traveling for vacation, shipping your small
pet may be a good option to consider. If saving time is
an issue and your pet trusts you to put him/her on a good
flight, pet shipping can be a wonderful resource. Below
are the most important key factors and requirements in pet
shipping.
Properly Sized Kennel
Animals must have room to stand up, turn and walk around
in their kennel. Undersized kennels should never be shipped
and when in doubt use a larger kennel.
Food and Water
All kennels must have at least one food and water portion
in a cup to provide the small dog is proper fed. Cups that
are securely fastened to the kennel or dog carriers work
better as opposed to snap on cups that tend to fall off
and may cause shipments to be denied by the airline.
Address Label
All small dog carriers require a tag clearly stating the
shipper’s name, address and telephone number. The
tag should also include the consignee’s name, address
and phone number.
Live Animal Labels
All kennels require a live animal label on the top of the
kennel and with arrows pointing up on the back or side of
the kennel.
Last Time Feed and Watered
All kennels or small dog carriers need to be marked with
the last time the animal was fed and watered.
Health Certificate
Any small dog that is shipped are required to have two copies
of their health certificate that is no more than ten days
old. One copy must be attached to the air bill and the other
copy attached to the kennel.
Acclimation Statement
If temperatures are above 85 or below 45 degrees en route
between destinations, the kennel must have an acclimation
statement from your veterinarian. When below 45 degrees
the acclimation statement musts state the lowest temperature
that the animal is accustomed to.
