Small Dog Carriers - Finding a Collar for a small dog

You should never try to second guess your pet's size for collars or any other
apparel. Usually a prior purchase is a good starting place if you want to
measure another collar, but manufacturers vary on measurements depending on a particular product. For your pet's safety and comfort, please measure for a dog collar by measuring your dog's neck. As a general guide, you should be able to fit two fingers (flat) easily between the tape and your dog's neck.

Remember, a collar shouldn't be tight around your dog's neck and it wouldn't
be the exact measurement of your dog's neck. But for safety reasons....so it
doesn't snag on something, it shouldn't be too loose either. A snug fit is
what you are aiming for. Not a tight one or one that chokes your pet.

Dog collars selection depends greatly on the purpose of buying a dog collar in the first place. Dog collars are mainly used for controlling dogs and dog training purposes.

If all you want is a dog collar that allows you to attach a dog leash and a dog tag, normal dog collars will do the job. Though normal dog collars come in different designs (buckle, slip, metal, etc.) and textures (nylon, cotton or leather), they all will allow you to keep your dog on the leash. Just make sure that the dog collar is strong enough to keep your dog without injuring him.

Keep in mind that one of the purposes for a dog collar is to display your dog’s liscense. Your dog should always have on his collar in case he gets lost, or hurt so that his owner can be easily found and he can get the care he needs!

Make sure you purchase a dog collar that is not only attractive but comfortable and one that will stay on. You can enjoy your pet more when you take proper care of him. Finding a collar for a small dog can be fun and productive!
